چکیده

It is for this reason proposed to recognize endocarditis lenta as a Streptococcus viridans infection which may be divided into two groups. In the first the infecting organism can be recovered from the blood stream and pyrexia is present, while in the second the blood is sterile and the temperature remains normal; but the ultimate result, though longer delayed in the second, is almost equally disastrous in the two groups.

Infective Endocarditis of the Tricuspid Valve: Report of a Case Due to Streptococcus Viridans.

Post-mortem evidence shows that tricuspid lesions are more common than is generally supposed, though they often escape clinical recognition. Gilchrist and Lyon (1933) found that 10 per cent of 109 cases with mitral stenosis had tricuspid stenosis; and Coombs (1924) found that about one-third of all cases of rheumatic endocarditis had tricuspid involvement. That this lesion should pass undiagnos...

Eggerthella lenta as a cause of anaerobic spondylodiscitis.

Anaerobic organisms are a rare cause of spondylodiscitis. Eggerthella lenta is an organism that is not commonly associated with spondylodiscitis. We describe a case of spondylodiscitis due to Eggerthella lenta in an 82-year-old Chinese woman presenting with back pain. The organism was isolated from tissue cultures obtained via radiology-guided biopsy.

Polymicrobial bloodstream infection with Eggerthella lenta and Desulfovibrio desulfuricans.

The advancement in culture identification methods has made possible the culture and identification of slow-growing anaerobic bacteria in clinical samples. Here, we describe a case of polymicrobial bloodstream infection (BSI) caused by Eggerthella lenta and Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, identified by API 20A and Vitek 2 systems and by 16S rRNA sequencing.

Clinical and microbiological characteristics of bacteremia caused by Eggerthella, Paraeggerthella, and Eubacterium species at a university hospital in Taiwan from 2001 to 2010.

We describe 16 patients with bacteremia caused by Eggerthella lenta (n = 7), Paraeggerthella hongkongensis (n = 3), Eubacterium limosum (n = 4), Eubacterium callanderi (n = 1), and concomitant Eubacterium limosum/Eggerthella lenta (n = 1). Nine (56%) patients had polymicrobial bacteremia. The overall 60-day mortality rate was 19%, and all deaths occurred in patients with E. lenta bacteremia.
